About me

I am a keen, passionate and smart 26 year old and I believe we need credible young people involved in politics.

I am a proud father to my son Arlo and husband to Meghan. I grew up in Gisborne and moved to Wellington in 2000 to study Religious Studies and History at Victoria University. Despite travelling internationally I have always returned to Wellington, where I feel most at home and now live on Cuba St. I love the vibrancy and creativity of the city and the fact that I don't have to own a car.

I am passionate about Green politics and want to see the Greens do well this election while staying true to our kaupapa. I joined the Party in 2000, inspired by the success achieved in the ’99 election. I worked for Greenpeace NZ for 5 years in a variety of roles, a highlight was sailing on the Rainbow Warrior on the bottom trawling campaign and
touring the country afterwards talking about this experience. Since 2006 I have thrown myself headlong into active involvement at all levels of the Party. As a paid employee I have had the privilege to work with all our MPs, particularly Sue Kedgley, Jeanette Fitzsimons and Metiria Turei. I have been responsible for planning, organising and have worked on Green campaigns such as saving the Johnsonville railway line, the Overlander train, and Wellington’s trolley buses. I also organised the successful Greens’ Climate Defence Tour where Jeanette, Russel and I visited and spoke in 40 towns and cities across Aotearoa.

I am actively involved in the grassroots of the Party, working with the Wellington Province and the Wellington Central electorate where I live – organising stalls and meeting
s, handing out materials and planning media events. As a part time post-grad Politics student I have been actively involved with the Greens@vic club and I am currently the President.
At the national level I am privileged to be a member of the Campaign Committee tasked with preparing the party for the next election. I am National Secretary of the Young Greens and I am passionate about encouraging more young people to get involved in the party. In 2007 I represented New Zealand at the Global Young Greens conference in Nairobi, Kenya. I have recently organised a successful summer camp at Jeanette Fitzsimons’ farm for more than 30 Young Greens to prepare them for the election ahead.

You can see some of my speeches, press releases and articles at my personal blog.

I have been part of heaps of different colourful actions as part of my activism and you can view some of the pictures on my Facebook page.

I am looking forward to this election, and I am optimistic that we can make real action on sustainability and social justice.
